Busy Bee

I didn't really think the month of February would be as busy as it's turning out to be. The only thing I knew would definitely be happening was a visit from WH. I'm very glad the blizzard of 2010 didn't put a halt to our plans. Despite the snow and cold, we had an awesome time. WH arrived late Friday night with Miss LP in tow. Let me just tell ya, having two Tennessee gals staying with you (especially these two) will lead to only one thing: crazy fun. These gals have tons of personality--so much that you'll spend half the time wondering if you should be laughing with them or pretending not to know them. I kid, I kid...sort of. :) (BTW...if you get a chance, check out LP's site HERE. If you know anyone who needs a graphic designer, she's your gal. I wish I could hire her because she's got a much better eye than the person I work with on a daily basis.)

Anyway, Saturday was WH's birthday and her wish was to go shopping at the outlet mall in Woodbury. So we trekked up there and managed to find some pretty good deals. I hadn't really planned on buying anything, but I found this pretty purple sweater at Banana Republic for $7.91. I just couldn't pass it up, could I? WH and I tried to talk LP into buying one, too, but the line didn't look all that appealing to her. Can't say I blame her.

After our day of shopping we dropped LP off at the PATH station so she could head into the city for an Anti-Valentine's Day party with her friends. We gave her our blessing to get wasted and made our way to PF Chang's to get WH's favorite meal for her birthday dinner.

Valentine's Day was spent in our PJs eating and watching movies. We only ventured out of our safe haven when it was time to pick up LP. There's was no way we were going to subject ourselves to cheesy couples, hearts, flying cherubs and flowers.

We celebrated President's Day in the City. After eating a wonderful meal at The Hummus Place (seriously, best hummus ever!) we wandered over to Chinatown then decided to take a walk on the Brooklyn Bridge. It was pretty cold, but the view was still amazing. After a little more shopping we decided Thai was the way to go for dinner. LP headed to her friend's house for the night and WH and I went home. We were exhausted.

They left this morning and I have to say it's a little weird to go home and not have those crazy girls here taking up residence in my living room. It's always a little strange the day house guests leave. There's always that short period of adjustment where you learn to live by yourself again.

This weekend I'm supposed to meet up with new mommy-to-be JM after I take my car in for an oil change and do some laundry. Then next week I've got a full weekend that starts on Thursday. I have to go to DC for a work event Thursday night. I decided to stay the weekend so I could visit with ZN and meet her baby girl. It's been five or six years since I last saw her, so I think it's time for a visit. I'm going to take the day off on Friday and check out the Newseum in DC, then I'm staying with ZN and her family on Saturday. I'm leaving Sunday morning and stopping in Philly to have lunch with SS since I haven't seen her in ages either. Yes, it's going to be a very full weekend for me, but I'm looking forward to it. I just hope the weather cooperates.

So far March looks like my quiet month, but that could change at any time. Wow, can you believe it's almost March? Time flies by fast when you're old.

Hope all my readers--all four and a half of you--are having a great week!

Snow Day Update

It's almost 6:00 and I have to say that this work day has gone by pretty fast. Here's what it now looks like outside my building:

It actually isn't as bad as it could've been--definitely not as bad as D.C. They really got slammed. Tomorrow's commute will most likely be gross and disgusting, but that's OK, I got to stay home today and I have the day off Monday. Although the wind is supposed to kick up tomorrow at least there won't be any snow smacking me in the face. Walking to the bus stop when you can barely see or move isn't my idea of fun. I thought I'd walk down the street to find something to eat, but I'm pretty warm and cozy in my self-made cocoon so I think I'll just see if I can scrounge up something here. I think I have everything I need for a grilled cheese sandwich and I spotted a can of tomato soup in the cupboard.

I was supposed to go to Trader Joe's at some point and pick up some of WH's favorite snacks for her visit this weekend (it's her birthday on Saturday!), but the way things are going it doesn't look like Mother Nature is going to allow the visit. Maybe the sun is powerful enough to melt all this snow in the next 24 hours? Yeah, that's definitely wishful thinking. Unfortunately, more snow is expected for Monday and Tuesday. Damn that groundhog and his shadow!

Snow Day

Guess who's working from home today? Me! Here's the view from my bedroom window:

When I looked out the window this morning, the commute into the city seemed doable, but I didn't want to risk having a horrible commute home. So I stayed home. This is so much better! I've got my laptop fired up, a hot cup of tea and my TV keeping me company. If I'm feeling adventurous later maybe I'll step outside and take a few pics. Work should always be like this. Sigh...

2010 Task #2: Rearrange Bedroom

For some bizarre reason I decided to take on this task over the weekend. Saturday evening I was sitting on the couch watching TV when I realized I was bored with my bedroom setup. I immediately started moving boxes, pushing furniture and vacuuming dust balls hidden behind and under the furniture.

So, because of this little project, all the crap that was hidden away in my bedroom is now sprawled out in the living room. I thought about moving things back in my room last night, but I decided against it. I figured the clutter would force me to go through all my stuff and get rid of the things I didn't need anymore.

So how do I feel about this new room? I like it. It feels brand new even though everything in it has been around for years. Although, my body was a little confused this morning. It's so used to running on automatic pilot when I'm half asleep that it kind of short circuited when it realized everything had moved. It'll adjust soon enough. Unfortunately, I didn't take any before pics so I can't really do a before and after comparison. Once everything is put away in its rightful place then maybe I'll snap a few shots.
